Primary Care Training Academy is based in Birmingham, and delivers specialised training courses to doctors [GP's, GPSI's, GP Registrars], as well as other Primary Care Practitioners including Nurses, Podiatrists, Chiropodists and Pharmacists. Minor surgery skills courses are run throughout the year. All courses are delivered by enthusiastic highly experienced trainers.

Primary Care Surgery Skills Course: 1.5 days duration

COURSE SUMMARY:

Aimed at: GP's, GP Registars, GPwSI in Dermatology and Skin Surgery.

Level: Primary Care Beginner to Advanced Hospital Practitioner (Delegates are grouped according to surgical competency level.) Training is subsequently focussed accordingly.

Course Details: A practical surgery skills workshop with intensive surgical training over 1.5 days; operating on real skin. Caters for beginners,intermediate and experienced level GPwSI's. Intensive technical tuition in all minor skin surgical techniques delivered in small group informal theory and practical sessions. This course has been fully approved by West Midlands Regional Postgraduate Deanery and CPD approved by NHS.

Accommodation: Substantially reduced rates have been secured for accommodation at the luxury Malmaison Hotel during the course. This surgical skills course is ideally suited to GP’s / GPSI’s or GP registrar’s and also A&E medical staff, F1-2/ST1-3's and Nurse Practitioners who wish to improve their skin surgical skills. Particularly those doctors performing or planning to perform minor skin surgery on a regular basis. All aspects of skin surgery will be covered from planning, marking of lesions, injecting, cutting, suturing techniques, skin flaps, z plasty etc and anything else delegates would like to know or practice. All skill levels are catered for (‘novice’ to ‘advanced’). Pig skin and novel jigs are used to give a realistic feel to the surgery. There is also an opportunity to practice/improve cryotherapy techniques, electrocautery devices and try recent skin closure developments.

The course is being held in the luxury boutique Malmaison Hotel in the heart of Birmingham  This is a part of the ‘Mailbox’ complex with its designer stores and chic bars/cafés. It is said to be 'Birmingham’s answer to Bond street!’ The Malmaison Hotel has its own leisure club and health/beauty spa (ref www.malmaison-birmingham.com).

Accommodation must be booked directly with the hotel 'in-house reservations department' on 0121 246 5000 quoting Primary Care Training Academy and Miss Diane Vukovich to secure preferential course delegate rates (£99pppn B&B! or £109 B&B Double Occupancy – normally £160 Room Only). Accommodation must be booked by 19th Aug 2009 to guarantee  these special rates. The course starts on Saturday morning, and closes at lunch on Sunday. Parking is available.

Delegates will be assessed pre and post course to ensure that groups of similar abilities work together. The course is informal and sociable. The course consists of mainly practical sessions, but micro lectures will cover lesion recognition, non-surgical treatment of lesions, BCC’s, LA’s, surgical pitfalls and tips.
